A Few Words About Us
Joey’s Group started in 1985 when Joe and Teresa Klassen opened Joey’s Only Seafood, focusing on high-quality seafood. The restaurant quickly became popular and expanded into a successful franchise across Canada. It later rebranded to Joey’s Seafood Restaurants, continuously improving its menu and customer experience. Today, Joey’s Group is known for its innovative and eco-friendly practices in the restaurant industry.
Joey’s Franchise group added another successful brand to their arsenal adding in a quick service restaurant called Streats Kitchens to its arsenal. Joey’s seafood has since rebranded in 2020 to Joey’s Fish shack and is having continued success with the 40 year old brand.
In 1993, Teja Food Group was founded to supply fish and products to Joey’s Only Seafood Restaurants. Seeing potential for growth, Teja expanded its offerings to over 400 items, including appetizers, seafood, breakfast items, and convenience store essentials. Over the past six years, partnerships with Echelon Foods and Canadian Trade House have boosted Teja’s market presence.
Throughout the years, Joey’s Group explored numerous opportunities beyond the restaurant business. These ventures included a barbershop franchise called MVP, a print shop named Printcor that produced proprietary items for Joey’s and other businesses, and Homes and Land magazine, among others. While some of these ventures did not achieve long-term success, the experiences and lessons learned from them contributed significantly to the group’s resilience and innovative approach, driving continued success.
Joey’s Group continues to acquire businesses that enhance its expertise in the food industry. Notable acquisitions include Northsea Fish and Farms, a local distributor in Calgary, and Made Foods, a premier fresh food meal prep company. Additionally, the acquisition of Craft Beef has further diversified their product offerings. These strategic acquisitions add different elements and expertise to Joey’s overarching theme of being experts in the food space.
As Joey’s Group experienced rapid growth, the need for in-house construction capabilities became apparent. In response, Heritage Construction was established in 2023 to specialize in building and revitalizing commercial and retail spaces. This new venture allows Joey’s Group to efficiently manage their expansion and ensure high-quality standards in their physical spaces
